Labor & Education Vietnam Construction Ministry Proposes $4734m For Student Dorms

Vietnam's Ministry of Construction has submitted a plan for the Prime Minister's approval to build student dormitories at a total cost of over VND8 trillion ($473.4 million) over the 2009-2010 period.
Under the plan, VND3.5 trillion will be poured into construction of 88 student dormitory projects in 28 localities this year.
The remainder of the capital will be disbursed in 2010.
The move aims to help deal with the need for student accommodations nationwide.
The ministry has also asked the government to give priority to dormitory construction in six main provinces and cities including Hanoi, HCM City, Thai Nguyen, Thua Thien-Hue, Danang and Can Tho.
Currently, Vietnam has 160 universities and 209 colleges with an enrolment of more than 1.5 million students per year, or 150 students for every 10,000 people.
